As I research and learn more about my children and yours, I will share articles and books that I find helpful. Let me know if you do too.
“My daughter loved her years in the Sprout program to the point that she stayed on as a helper after she aged out. The activities sprout leads are the most innovative and engaging experiences, setting up challenging academic questions wrapped in games and hands-on projects. My daughter learned to love learning through the Sprout lens, a gift she will carry with her throughout her academic career.”
“Sprout has been a great way to challenge our son’s thinking on another dimension. It’s exciting to see his mind working when he comes home from sprout, and the ideas that he generates. It certainly challenges him in a different way that regular school cannot provide. Judy has been exceptional in helping us understand what young minds are capable of, and helping us unlock that hidden potential.”
“Our son loves Sprout. He enjoys the activities in addition to exploring the history / science or stories behind the content. He can’t wait to share at the dinner table what he has created that day. As a mom, I value how he is making friends that challenge him and provide new perspectives.”
“Sprout is an amazing program that my son has participated in for the past couple of years. The program is one of the best for several reasons:
-I love the fact that many of the ideas come from the students themselves. It’s wonderful to see a program that caters to each child’s interests and passions.
-In addition, there are a wide variety of activities that are experimental in nature, the children are engaged in exploration and research picking up important skills that can be applied in an out of school.
-The projects are also culturally diverse in that the children are exposed to art from other cultures, such as the Japanese Art of marble painting, “Suminagashi.”
-Additionally, each week is so different from the last and covers a wide range of subjects. For instance, my son learned about poetry and board games and then created his own. He also learned about scientific concepts such as physics and the geomagnetic field by creating levers and a compass. In fact, one of his favorite projects was in making a simple hydropower machine that utilized the power of water to pull up a small object. I’m constantly blown away at how all the activities are so complex and detailed yet perfectly suited for each child’s age and development.
Judy Wahl is a talented educator, with a warm heart and a great enthusiasm for what she does. I hope my son will be able to continue with the program for many years to come!”
“Participating in Sprout has provided valuable enrichment for both of my children. The topics are interesting and capture their attention, while challenging them to use both scientific reasoning and creative expression. Projects are multi-sensory and often active; no sitting still listening to a long lecture. They work with other children of varying ages, allowing them the chance to be peer-to-peer learners and teachers. I appreciate the breadth of subject areas and the opportunity for the kids to dive deep into each week’s topic. My children look forward to Sprout every week!”
My daughter has attended Sprout for 3+ years. Judy Wahl, as the owner/director has a deep commitment to the growth, development, nurture and understanding of the ‘gifted’ child. The topics and projects she selects for the program are incredibly dynamic and broad, creating true ‘fan favorites’ each and every week. My daughter is always excited to show me the ‘result’ of her weekly Sprout class. Through Sprout, she is offered opportunities to think and act and create in ways that are beyond the traditional public school/traditional curriculum. Sprout, by nature of its design, allows for her to truly ‘think’ like she actually does—that, in and of itself, is a gift!
Judy is always highly communicative and provides great detail in advance of what the children will be working on for the week. She is also available to provide extra support outside of Sprout through personal guidance, resource knowledge, etc to the families of gifted children. I find her an absolute delight and am truly thankful that she cares so profoundly for the concept of Sprout and for each and every child that attends.
