We begin each class by fostering the gifted child’s social and emotional development through engaging interactions and open-ended play with like-minded peers. Then, there is an introduction to the enrichment activity, where the children are encouraged to share his/her background knowledge about a particular topic as the “group expert.” Next, the children are absorbed in a hands-on project that peeks curiosities and provides challenges. Finally, there is an opportunity for the children to work on homework or participate in more social time.
Sprout Gifted’s goals are to nurture the gifted child’s social and emotional well being, to provide a safe place for gifted children to be themselves, and discover in an open minded environment. We strive to learn as much about the gifted child as we can, to expose gifted children to a wealth of experiences, and to guide gifted children to develop a love for lifelong learning.
Each class period is approximately two hours in length. The teachers are there with the children in a small group setting to stimulate their inquisitive minds and to inspire them to persevere through challenges. Sometimes the project might fail, however, they are encouraged to be receptive to new ideas, and keep investigating solutions. We want to set the gifted child up for life lessons that will take them beyond the classroom and into the real world. With our small group setting and low teacher to student ratio, the gifted child is sure to find his/her voice and explore to his/her fullest potential.
Sprout Gifted offers an Early Childhood program that is designed to give the early learners a chance to see what Sprout is all about. During our hour and a half class, the children will be involved in social time where the teachers will work with them on listening skills, taking turns, following directions, learning rules, problem-solving, and much more. Then, they will be engaged in hands-on, higher order thinking activities that are of high interest and we will get to the bottom of those constant WHY! questions. Finally, the class will wrap up with reflections from the day and team building activities.
Sprout Summer Camp is a three-hour program (with options of extended care) focusing on social, emotional, and cognitive development of the gifted child for students entering K-5 and Middle School.
By providing ample opportunities and enriching projects based on the gifted student’s curiosities, you will soon see that your gifted child has found a group of peers that she/he can feel comfortable with and share their vast talents. Because of our passion for gifted education, we look at many fields of learning from art, growth mindset, science, drama, writing, math, and social studies. The possible areas that we study are endless. We provide opportunities for individual work and collaboration with peers. We give Sprout participants chances to share their work and even teach about topics that interest them.
Each day of camp will focus on inspiring, exploratory projects that are open-ended and involve critical thinking, growth mindset, collaboration, and the creative process. Projects are inspired by the student’s interests and curiosities about how things work and evolve.
We offer a Counselors in Training program for our Middle School Students! In the C.I.T. Program, we will work with the young adult to understand the planning process, engagement of the young students, and responsibility. We will encourage the C.I.T’s to take a leadership role and share their voice and thoughts with the Sprout campers. We will also encourage their own explorations and find their passions!
We won’t put your child in a box. We give them a box and watch them create!
