What is Sprout Gifted Early Childhood?
Sprout Gifted offers an Early Childhood program for children ages 3-5 years old. E.C. Sprout is designed to give early learners a chance to see what Sprout is all about and to challenge their social and academic needs by putting them with other students that are like minded.
During our hour and a half class, the children will be involved in social time where the teachers will work with them on listening skills, taking turns, following directions, learning rules, problem-solving, and much more.
Then, they will be engaged in hands-on, higher order thinking activities that are of high interest and we will get to the bottom of those constant WHY!?! questions. Finally, the class will wrap up with reflections from the day and team building activities.
Why Gifted Early Childhood?
Does your child have an insatiable curiosity? Does your child stand out amongst her/his peers? Is your child the “trouble maker,” “compliant student,” or “quiet, good student?”
These questions are among the many that parents of young gifted children often ask themselves. A gifted person is gifted from the beginning. We can certainly grow into our intelligences. People can find their passions in life. But a gifted person is gifted from the start.
- More often than not, a gifted child retains information at a more rapid pace.
- More often than not a gifted child teaches her/himself to read.
- More often than not, a gifted child relates to older people.
- Why? Why? Why? Gifted children never stop asking Why?
If these statements are true, then why does our educational system hold gifted people back? If we look at students for their abilities all around then gifted students needs should be met just as needs for a child with a learning challenge should be met. Would you send an athlete to the Olympics without a coach or training? Then why would we continue to let children teach themselves?
We want gifted students to begin to feel comfortable in their own skin not stand out like a sore thumb.
We want to surround even the youngest learner with other children that think like them so they can begin to grow and develop into the independent, collaborative, and creative thinkers that the world is looking for.
