HUGE success!!! Team building engineering challenge with lots twists and turns! The kids learned to work as a team and to persevere with each twist presented to them! Materials changed, teams changed, languages changed! The sprout kids worked well together and found much success.
We are excited to kick off our Sprout Session with a design thinking, team building, engineering project! Check out this great video to hear more about engineers from crash course Kids. https://youtu.be/owHF9iLyxic
We are looking forward to a great school year with our Sprout Groups! Some student request topics - Trebuchets, Suminagashi, break out games, STEAM challenges, and Dinosaurs! It's going to be an exciting year with Sprout. Registration is open to new and seasoned Sprout students. SproutGifted.org/admissionsandregistration
The Sprout @ St. Matthias Group had a super day of entrepreneurship! They put together a fantastic Summer Snack Stand! They made the signs, packaged all the products, made lemonade, and marketed to the customers nearby. They decided to give 30% of their proceeds to a local animal shelter. It was an exciting day!
The Sprout kids worked on their own games today. They came up with names, objectives, rules, and strategies to win their games. So many great ideas!
Today in Sprout, the Campers made their own smoothies. They were able to mix ingredients, taste test their own and each others, bottle the best recipe of their choosing. Then they made a label and named their smoothie and calculated the nutritional value of the smoothie. It was a really fun day with lots of… Continue reading Make and Market your Own Smoothie!
Wow! What a week it's been! The Sprout kids were really excited and so organized for their student request to have a lemonade stand. We discussed being an entrepreneur. Giving to a charity: which they all agreed they would be collecting for The Tree House Humane Society. And we talked about net profit. The… Continue reading The Sprout Stand- a student request and student led activity
This is always a great day when we get creative and make things out of recyclable materials! We talked about the Design thinking process. First, we looked at what materials were available to us. Then we thought about something that could be made that is "useful." This parameter is very open ended because what is… Continue reading Student Request: Recycle Project Day
After learning about household products and their chemical reactions, the Sprout kids set off to make a non-newtonian fluid and then experimented with their own concoctions including slime, balloon "explosions", an oozing fluffy potion nicknamed "elephant toothpaste" and much more.
What a great way to learn about Newton's third law of motion, momentum, and pressure then through a explosive project on bottle rockets! By placing the right ratio of baking soda and vinegar inside a plastic bottle and then corking it and watching the chemical reaction take place was amazing fun!
