Sprout @ St. Matthias School in Lincoln Square

We kicked off our camp week with a classic recyclable project!  We talked about landfills, biodegradable materials, harmful plastics and wasteful materials.  We looked at houses made from recyclable materials and then got inspired!  The Sprout kids were given ample recycled materials to sort through and they were asked to design something that is “useful!” – which could be just about anything.  They came up with games, an organizer, a pencil holder, an oil mister, and rocket!  Great ideas from all the kiddos.

Debates

This week we practiced our debating skills.  The Sprout kids were grouped in teams of 2-3 and they were given a topic to express which was better!  Then they were able to counter-argue.  They did a great job.

Simple Machines

With Halloween on everybody’s mind, we took a look at simple machines and then used our knowledge of simple machines to figure out how we could trap and capture some of our favorite Halloween creatures: spiders and ghosts!  Take a look at these great STEM creations.
