My daughter has attended Sprout for 3+ years. Judy Wahl, as the owner/director has a deep commitment to the growth, development, nurture and understanding of the ‘gifted’ child. The topics and projects she selects for the program are incredibly dynamic and broad, creating true ‘fan favorites’ each and every week. My daughter is always excited to show me the ‘result’ of her weekly Sprout class. Through Sprout, she is offered opportunities to think and act and create in ways that are beyond the traditional public school/traditional curriculum. Sprout, by nature of its design, allows for her to truly ‘think’ like she actually does—that, in and of itself, is a gift!
Judy is always highly communicative and provides great detail in advance of what the children will be working on for the week. She is also available to provide extra support outside of Sprout through personal guidance, resource knowledge, etc to the families of gifted children. I find her an absolute delight and am truly thankful that she cares so profoundly for the concept of Sprout and for each and every child that attends.
“Sprout is an amazing program that my son has participated in for the past couple of years. The program is one of the best for several reasons:
-I love the fact that many of the ideas come from the students themselves. It’s wonderful to see a program that caters to each child’s interests and passions.
-In addition, there are a wide variety of activities that are experimental in nature, the children are engaged in exploration and research picking up important skills that can be applied in an out of school.
-The projects are also culturally diverse in that the children are exposed to art from other cultures, such as the Japanese Art of marble painting, “Suminagashi.”
-Additionally, each week is so different from the last and covers a wide range of subjects. For instance, my son learned about poetry and board games and then created his own. He also learned about scientific concepts such as physics and the geomagnetic field by creating levers and a compass. In fact, one of his favorite projects was in making a simple hydropower machine that utilized the power of water to pull up a small object. I’m constantly blown away at how all the activities are so complex and detailed yet perfectly suited for each child’s age and development.
Judy Wahl is a talented educator, with a warm heart and a great enthusiasm for what she does. I hope my son will be able to continue with the program for many years to come!”
